Gallery in Gladwyne
Gladwyne, Pennsylvania
The goal of this project was to create spatial coherence between a newly constructed gallery, a pool, and the existing residence. Native plantings, including a cool season meadow and lush masses of warm season grasses, capture light and create movement to frame views. An environmentally sensitive blend of dwarf fescue grasses is used in lieu of traditional lawn, except in very high traffic areas. Underscoring the bold lines of the architecture, the meadow was ordered on a grid extending from the gallery. Varying densities in the grid create space for circulation and invite interaction with meadow. Over time, natural processes will deconstruct the grid and new patterns will evolve. Each year a new mosaic emerges.
