The Ambler Yards reimagines an old industrial site in Ambler Pennsylvania. This complex of old offices and industrial buildings will be transformed into a contemporary office complex. A central “Yard” space and large lawn will serve as social hubs for a variety of spaces. The Yard is framed by large planters, incorporating movable planters, seating and chairs for flexible use. The lawn features a large green space framed by meadow and groves of native trees. A true brownfield site, the design required careful accommodation of existing caps and monitoring wells dealing with groundwater contamination remnant of mid twentieth century industry. Where possible, rain gardens and meadow plantings encourage infiltration of stormwater and cleansing of the site. Both the architecture and the landscape look to re-purpose elements from the existing buildings to maintain a sense of the site’s industrial past.
